Summer is a time for opportunity and accomplishment. During summer holidays 12 students from the Institute of Science-Intensive Technologies and New Materials of Ogarev Mordovia State University completed a paid internship at the Optic fiber Systems (further OVS) plant. Seven of them are studying in the specialized area of training “Photonics and Optical Informatics”; it is the Department of Photonics that prepares specialists for OVS.

Future engineers master the most important production professions: optical fiber drawing operator, optical fiber testing and rewinding operator, and quality control inspector - and gain unique experience at the only telecommunications optical fiber production plant in Russia.

Trainees are assigned experienced mentors. This year, students receive not only practical skills, but also additional knowledge about production processes and the properties of optical fibers at the OVS training center.

Particularly noteworthy that the internship payment is equivalent to the salary level of already certified employees.

Experience shows that such internships pay off. Last year, 3 students from the Photonics and Optical Informatics training area completed a summer internship; two of them are currently employed in «Optic fiber Systems» JSC on a permanent basis and are already preparing for certification for the next qualification category. This summer, there are many more people wishing to continue their career in OVS.

In our opinion, organizing paid internships for students is one of the most effective mechanisms for interaction between a university and an employer. Such internships provide future specialists with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves into real work processes, get acquainted with the professional environment and test their skills in practice, and the payment for their work not only motivates, but also creates a sense of responsibility in them for completing assigned tasks. In turn, companies have opportunities to actively participate in the training of a new generation of specialists. Internships allow us to identify talented students and create a pool of potential employees who are ready to contribute to the development of the enterprise,” emphasized Andrey Nikolaev, General Director of «Optic fiber Systems» JSC.
