On February 15 - 16, the VI scientific and technical conference “Prospects for the development and consumption of optical cables: estimates of 2018” was held on the territory of “Saranskkabel-Optika”, Ltd. The speakers told about the latest trends in the production of optical fiber cables, shared the experience of 2017, and also discussed the prospects of the industry’s development.

The attention of the audience was attracted to the report “Russian optical fiber: results of 2017 and prospects of development”, which was made by Deputy General Director - Chief Engineer of “Optic Fiber Systems” JSC Mikhail Vlasov .Analysis of the world and Russian markets of optical fiber showed that according to various estimates the annual growth rate of fiber demand in the next 4 years will increase from 2 to 10%. “In 2021 the fiber demand in the world will approach 700 million km per year, and in Russia it could be up to 9 million km”, Mikhail Vlasov commented on the current situation.

In 2017, 91% of the optical fiber produced by “Optic Fiber Systems” JSC was exported to 8 countries, including 4 EU countries (Austria, England, Poland, Czech Republic) where Russian product is successfully consumed.

Currently, the company’s been actively working on the implementation of key projects for the future development: increasing the plant productivity to 3.2 million km per year (with a subsequent increase in production capacity up to 6 million km per year), creation of the auxiliary production sites (optical fiber coloring, handles welding). The largest of the planned projects is the building of a plant for the preforms production.

On February 16, the participants of the conference visited “Optic Fiber Systems” JSC , where they could check the high level of production culture and technological support of the enterprise out.

“Optic fiber Systems” JSC (www.rusfiber.ru) – is the first Russian plant manufacturing optical fiber. The plant is situated in Saransk, Mordovia Republic. It  was officially opened September 25^th,  2015. The shareholders of the company are RUSNANO, Gazprombank, the Government of Mordovia Republic.

Today it is a modern high-tech manufacturing with a capacity of 2,4 million km of optical fiber per year. While based on the scheduled upgrade project the capacity of the plant will be increased to 4 mln kilometers of optical fiber per year.

Currently there are the most popular types of the fiber – optical fibers of G652d and G657A1/G652d standards - are serially produced at the plant. The both types of the fiber are certified and were successfully tested by OJCS Rostelecom. Optical fibers of other types are planned to produce.
